A WWW Server with Media Scaling Mechanism Based on Page Transmission Latency

چکیده
Today, billions of users use the Internet to access various multimedia information on the World Wide Web (WWW). Most users, however, are given low-speed connection to the Internet and are often irritated by long transmission time of WWW pages. Therefore, it is very important for information providers to tailor the presentation of information to users’ network environment. In this paper, we propose an architecture for a WWW server with media scaling mechanism. The WWW server can control the transmission time of WWW pages based on the transmission time threshold specified by the information providers. We also describe our implementation of the WWW server and discuss some experimental results.

The architecture of World Wide Web (WWW) browsers and servers support full le transfer for document retrieval. TCP is used for data transfers by Web browsers and their associated Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) servers. متن کاملWWW Multicast Delivery with Classes of Service
At busy WWW servers the inter-reference times of some documents may be low enough for duplicate requests to be accumulated and held over some small time interval before servicing the duplicate requests via a single multicast at the end of the time interval. The use of multicast in this way will reduce the bandwidth consumption on the server output link. We present a scheme that extends these pr...

The rapid growth of the WWW has inspired numerous techniques to reduce web latency. While some of these techniques have not been implemented because they either increase network rru$ic or require coaperation between tiers. recent studies cast a shndow on techniques already in use (e.g. proxy cachingl as U result of the increasingly dynamic aspects of the WWW. Znparticular, the prol$erration of ...
